Florence Night Out is proud to showcase talented, diverse local performance artists to give a taste of the Valley’s vibrant dance culture. Read on to learn more about the groups joining us at this year’s festival!

ASCENDANCE INNER WORLD ARTS- THE MERIDIAN PERFORMANCE COMPANY
Specializing in ballet, jazz, contemporary, hip hop, musical theater, and tap- The Meridian Performance Company is the teen pre-professional performance group representing the Ascendance Inner World Arts studios. We range in age from 12-17 and we are committed to our growth, individually and collectively, as dancers and artists.
Ascendance Inner World Arts opened in Florence back in 2015 and has always concerned itself with the three C’s: Community, Collaboration, and Connection.

CAPOEIRA WITH BRUNO TRINDADE & TARA BORGILT
Capoeira is a unique movement art form that combines martial art, music, and dance. It developed in colonial-era Brazil among enslaved Africans as a tool of resistance and rebellion. In their presentation they will share different styles of Capoeira games, each with their particular music and songs sung in Portuguese. They will demonstrate both choreographed sequences and creative improvisation. You will see some of the fun training games done in class and get a chance to participate in simple movements to feel your body in the rhythm with the music.

TONY SILVA & MICHELLE MARROQUÍN
Michelle Marrroquin is a dancer and performance artist with over 20 years of experience choreographing odd and diverse events, and most recently Dance Films. Tony Silva plays traditional music from Spain and Latin America. They will be bringing their traditional music and dance to Florence Night Out!

SALSA INSTRUCTION WITH DJ CHICO JIMENEZ
Jimenez has been a Salsa instructor for more than 20 years, and a mobile and club DJ for more than 40 years. He started doing this as a hobby but then as the demand for DJ gigs and classes increased, I turned it to a part time business. DJ Jimenez will be bringing his DJ service & Salsa dance instruction to the streets of Florence!

“emBodied/wHole” BY MAGGIE NOWINSKI & SUPPORTING DANCERS
Dance and movement artists Michelle Marroquin and Zazie Tobey activate Maggie Nowinski’s sculptural drawings called wHoles. This work fuses installation art, time-based choreography as well as improvisational response to materials, sound and site. A poetic investigation of resilience and fragility, life cycles, growth and transition, and the individual within a collective, eMbodied/wHole invites viewers to conjure and be curious along with the performers.
