This year, Florence Night Out will be welcoming a variety of fantastic film artists!
One specific artist, Luke Jaeger, will be displaying a selection of independent animated films. This artist / filmmaker grew up in Brooklyn and attended Yale University, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, and Massachusetts College of Art. Luke currently works in the Mount Holyoke College makerspace, where he helps students and staff with physical fabrication and 3D printing. On any given day he is equally likely to be operating a computer keyboard, soldering iron, table saw, laser cutter, or poodle. Luke’s drawings, paintings, and small sculptures have been exhibited in Boston and New York; his animated films have been shown in festivals and theaters worldwide. He also plays guitar in a funk / soul band. Find Luke’s work at his website!
Also on display this year will be a collection of short experimental films by Western MA artists, called “The Block.” This group screening is curated by Sarah Lanzillotta, and it includes Lauren Cook, Dominic Poropat, Sofie Frydman, Zach Hart & Allie Wilson, Bassam Kurdali, Miranda Bushey, and Jazer Giles.
Sarah Lanzillotta is an artist and a film and music programmer, basing her work through organizations The Root Cellar and Looky Here in Greenfield. Sarah’s film programming has included the experimental and non fiction section at the Northampton Film Festival, and co-programming the “Good Night’s Sleep” series which focused on experimental film makers with ties to Western MA.
